Eng. Sameh Fahmy, Minister of Petroleum , with the
company of General Adel Labib , Alexandria Governor,
Mr. Mohamed Abou El Enein , Head of the Industry
and Energy Committee of the People’s Assembly and
its members,
visited Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR).

Eng.
Sameh Fahmy, Minister of Petroleum, assured that
in the last few years the world’s petroleum
market has gone through a shortage of the
refineries resulting from not constructing new
ones, inspite of the world’s increasing demand
of high quality petroleum products that require
hi-Tec refineries. He also pointed out that
MIDOR is considered as a modern complex
refinery
with a capacity of 5 million tonnes annually and
producing high quality products complying with
the American and European Standards.
Chem.
Medhat Youssef, Chairman and CEO of MIDOR,
indicated that MIDOR is segregated technically
as a deep conversion refinery which produces
final high quality products that
represent 87% (LPG – Gasoline – kerosene -
Diesel) while they don't exceed 48% in the
simple refineries.

Moreover, he explained
that MIDOR Refinery includes a Hydrocracker and
Delayed Coker Units that convert heavy products
of low value into light and middle distillates
of high economic value. In fact, it is regarded as a unique refinery in
Egypt
that doesn’t produce fuel oil as a final product
which increases the added value of its products.
He
added that MIDOR produces 33% of the Egyptian
diesel which is equivalent to 25% of the total
consumption of the local market. Accordingly, an
expansion plan has been implemented to increase
the production for the economic
benefit
from its units clarifying that the
current investment value
of the refinery has recently
increased by
3 times from 1.4 billion dollars (during construction) to 4.5 billion dollars .
The Head of Industry and Energy Committee of the
Egyptian People’s Assembly, Mr. Mohamed Abou El
Enein stated that MIDOR Refinery applies highly
advanced technologies pointing out the
importance of the Refinery in providing diesel
and high octane gasoline to the local market and
exporting the surplus. This is a message to
encourage and maintain these great capabilities
and not to privatize them.
