Environmental Protection

All activities within the refinery are being monitored to ensure their compliance with the Egyptian Environmental Law No. 4/1994, international standards and regulations. SCADA system is in operation to secure crude and products pipelines in case of breakage so as to assure environmental safety.

1- Waste Water Treatment

•  The Refinery's waste water is being regularly monitored and treated by adhering to the latest waste water treatment technology through the biological treatment unit.

•  Random samples are analyzed on monthly basis by the Egyptian Environmental Authority and laboratories of the Ministry of Health in Alexandria .

2- Air Quality

•  Air quality within and outside the refinery's vicinity is being monitored and analyzed by MIDOR's laboratories and the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research (IGSR) Alexandria University , the authorized body by the Egyptian Environmental Authority for detecting environmental pollution.

3- Handling of Hazardous wastes

•  An allocated area was assigned as a temporary storage area for hazardous and non-hazardous wastes, thus to be disposed of, in an environmentally approved landfill.

•  Some hazardous wastes are being disposed of in El-Nasrya landfill in Alexandria, complying with the applied regulations and rules.

•  The Environmental Affairs Authority has selected MIDOR as a pattern of the HSE management for the Japanese Jica Institute.

•  MIDOR, in cooperation with Alexandria University , has carried out a scientific study to reduce solid wastes; to be applied at the refinery after being awarded the Master degree.
